HEAD’S UP: We had so much fun in September talking show talk in 50 words or less that we are doing it again for Fall 2014 and for the forseeable future. Also expect our customary off-the runway catwalk alleyway walk-about chatter, banter and asides. Indeed though, Yours Truly, Neil Wolfson and whoever else joins our merry band will hold forth on what truly inspires or what is so painfully hideous that it is remarkable, but ever so briefly. And … game ON!!!!!!
KATYA LEONOVICH
Ensembles from the Fall 2014 Katya Leonovich collection. Photos courtesy of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Day 5
(SOME of the players at the tents and elsewhere): 3.1 Phillip Lim, Reem Acra, Rosie Assoulin, Alice + Olivia, Dennis Basso, Victoria, Victoria Beckham, Carolina Herrera, Kenneth Cole, Donna Karan New York, Tommy Hilfiger, Azede Jean-Pierre, Katya Leonovich, Alon Livne, Mathieu Mirano, Milly by Michelle Smith, Noon by Noor, Ohne Titel, Zac Posen, Angel Sanchez, Ricardo Seco, Barbara Tfank, Karen Walker, Yeohlee
DESPITE the widely pilloried New World Order that has overtaken Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York Fall 2014, the shows are going on. And they are more interesting than a body expected. Go figure.
At Katya Leonovich, dominant colors are gray and silver. Interesting accessories, shoes, and hair and makeup. Some dresses seem to have a hoop inside that gives the appearance of pregnancy. Show closes with a hoop skirt, an updated version that brings to mind “Gone with the Wind.” Lots of glitter. – NEIL WOLFSON
MILLY BY MICHELLE SMITH
Milly by Michelle always has a strong showing at fashion week. How to describe it? Sparkling and sexy. Several peekaboo ensembles. A see-through dress appears to be lingerie. It exudes sensuality. Animal prints are paired with metallics. Yeti-style faux fur get-ups add a humorous element to the garments. Winning, as always. – NEIL WOLFSON
Surprisingly, her bright color is the cracked silver. She uses it on skirts, dresses and jackets, often paired with black, giving it the affect of being very bright. She does a lot of fine, effortless applique work with fringe and petals that is well-done and seemingly effortless. – YOURS TRULY
On Deck today, Day 6: Allsaints, the Art Institutes, Badley Mischka, Badgley Mischka, Malan Breton, Tory Burch, Chaos NY, Concept Korea, J. Crew, Wes Gordon, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Naeem Khan, Leather Japan, Libertine, MM6 Maison Martin Margiela, Wendy Nichol, Jenny Packham, Rodarte, Pamella Roland, Saunder, Skingraft, Sophia Theallet Twain's Twines, Vera Wang, Alexander Vidal, Timo Weiland
